Hello everyone! It seems like you have a great group here.

I've been lurking around the forum for a while, trying to determine how to get started with all of this. I'm an avid swimmer who is interested in diving, especially freediving and am a bit afraid to jump into a course alone without any prior experience with fins, suits, etc. I don't know anyone who can help and I'm just wondering how everyone else who was an adult beginner got started?

Hello Nola, welcome aboard.

I strongly suggest Umberto Pelizzari's book: Manual of Freediving. It will inspire you as well as teach you a ton about this sport. Are you anywhere withing reach of the sea/ocean?

Will do, thanks! I am near the Gulf of Mexico, but I have no idea when it'll be safe to go back out there.

I am sure we are all worried about what's going on in the Gulf of Mexico. Hope it clears as soon as possible with as little impact as possible. But this could be wishful thinking I am afraid. Anyway, since the sea is not an option for you at the moment you should start to practice in a swimming pool. There are good training tables in the book I have mentioned. And you can always find more on the internet.

Hi Abby! I live SSE of San Antonio. Search the threads for info. on dive spots.

Hiya to all, I'm NOT from texas, because my name doesn't start with the letter A it seems.

So hiya from Oz!
