After a 16+ year hiatus I'm back in the water. Went abing last week and it was like I hadn't been away. Diving 30' was fairly easy but now that I've found Deeper Blue I'd like to break the 3 and then 4 min
and be able to dive 30 M.
? With practice does the urge to breathe and pain diminish or do you just learn to tolerate it?

Welcome to DB, WD :D Glad to see another California diver, though I wish you were a bit further south. Feel free to enjoy this site, browse, ask questions, make friends, all kinda good stuff. Check out the Freediving section for apnea tips and techniques.
In answer to your question - sort of. Your body gets used to apnea with practice, and a lot of it is mental, being able to relax, and so forth. If possible, take the Performance Freediving clinic. It's awesome, and you'll probably hit those goals with training & practice.
Again, welcome :)
