Hi,
I'm looking for something else to do with my spare time, I'm 25 and don't really know may people around here. I'm living in North Devon for a couple of years and it would be good to try a bit of spear fishing. If anyone's in the area and is feeling like they would like to give someone with no idea a helping hand that'd be much appreciated. I don't know much about kit or where to go!

Jason

hi jason

my names joe , nice to meet you .WELCOME TO THIS BEAUTIFUL SPORT AND SITE...Im new on here too :) theres an incredible amount of info on this site for all your needs. i live in south west cornwall. so its away aways. but im sure lots on people on here will love to help you out !! good luck finding your first fish ! the winds are up and strong here atm, so no fishing todayy.... but the surfs pumping roflrofl

Yeh the surf's been a bit varied here! Whenever it's been good I've been at work! There's lots of helpful stuff on here, I'm looking to get some second hand kit. I'm not sure where is best to go fishing though.

Welcome. Check the N Devon thread. My advice would be to get in first with mask and snorkel, and see what you think of your local surroundings. You can pick your spots on this coast, there are so many potentially great spots, but we do suffer from poor viz a lot of the time. If your a surfer you understand the local currents, .. Best avoid the points to start with as they can rip faster than you can fin. Also avoid the tourist beaches during the holidays if you are going in armed!

If your seeing good fish within 3m then it's time to get a gun.

This year as been pretty poor viz wise,.. It's been doable but it hasn,t been great. Fingers crossed for some calm conditions in September?! , but I think we may have seen the best of it. Heavy rain doesn't,t help on this coast!
