Kiaora (Hi) from New Zealand.Have just recently got back into free diving after taking my boy out for seafood (kaimoana) at the end of last summer.Starting him off in the shallows he got his first kina (sea urchin) which is my favorite kaimoana .I had to chuckle as he come up with his mask half filled with sea water and snot, coughing because he forgot to purge but in his hand had his first kina and a huge smile on his face.Well that planted the seed and now hes the driving force behind our trips up to leigh.Hes conned my uncle out of an old spear gun which had seized about 20 years ago and we drilled out the old screws ,greased it up,threw a new rubber on and now it goes like gold.looking forward to the summer this year, will take the old sit on double kayak up and dive all along the coast around there .My boss will be lucky to see me come back to work.

That's a perfect freedive story. Welcome to the forums and best of luck with you family diving!

Cheers.
Ben

Indeed a very nice story! Have much fun exploring the sea and yourselves!

Love, Courage and water,

Kars

Yup hes pretty keen .Been looking at some of the basics surprised to read about shallow water blackout .Only diving in about 10m max so far and basically diving close to one another but will from now on take turns as he breath holds longer.Used to hyperventilate for deep dives before and was about to show the boy but after reading that its dangerous will go with the deep slow breaths to store up on oxygen.Lots of good information here even for the person who not to keen to push the limits
