Hi everybody,

few years ago, after having reached the hands of the "Cristo Degli Abissi" statue in S. Fruttuoso di Camogli (-12 m) absolutely untrained and just wearing a mask and a pair of trunks, I realized my passion for freediving was awakened after decades of hibernation.

Recently I started to train in pool again (just swimming) and my interest in freediving surfaced again: I found extremly interesting to read all your comments, tips and suggestions about nearly everything (but recently more on pipe mask, nose clips and similar) so I decided to write this to introduce myself but expecially to thank you all for being so generous in sharing your experience.

For the records I am Italian (Genovese actually like are Cressi or Technisub) but I moved to Stockholm few years ago with wife and kids.

Ciao ciao,

Matteo.

Welcome to Deeperblue. There's plenty of information and friendship here :) I hope you stick around.

Thank you guys for your welcome, and for suggesting to join apnea groups. I haven't done it yet, but I will soon or later. I am not willing to dive alone that's for sure, but I'm planning to train a little bit more in pools before (with warm water.. remeber, I am italian.. I 'd rather skate on ice, not dive under.. not yet at least. ..brrr..:) Ciao, Matteo.

Hi Matteo!
Yes, as everyone said... welcome back to diving!
I'm a South African freediver living 50 50 in Cape Town and Stockholm...
I come back to Stockholm in late May, just the right time for you to leave
the pool and come do some quarry dives with me and the other Stockholm
freedivers. I'm also an AIDA instructor if you're interested.
Hope to see you in the summer!
Hanli

Welcome to DB, Matteo.
I'll be interested in Your experience with cold-water-diving, as it's not really warm here either. Read You soon,

Matteo,

how about earning Your first helping of Rep Power? My italian is - sadly - not good enough for this.
I'm trying to find the details of a diveshop and/or its owner in Sardegna, see this call for help for details.
Since GoH will be heading to Sardegna in May, he'd like to ask him a couple of questions as well - maybe You could help finding the guy?

Thanks for even considering,

Sanso

Hi Matte,

I would like to point, that swimming training should also be done with buddies, so search for the Stockhom apnea group! If I remember well, it was Ericsdahl (may be I'm wrong wit hspelling), where they trained. I was lucky to meet some freedivers there.

So it is always better to go to train with a group, with friends, than alone.

Hi again!
Yes, Jee is right, don't ever train alone... we had a tragic accident in Sweden a few weeks ago, and I'm sure the Stockholm guys and girls will be more than happy to meet up- and as I said, I'll be there in springtime...
Till then, you could contact Yamina, she is the chairperson of AIDA Swe and trains in Eriksdalsbadet on Södermalm.

Have fun!

Thanks Jee and Hanli,

a part of few attempts to improve my equalizations technique, I am mostly doing swimming, and as you probalby could imagine Eriksdalsbadet (where I am also training) is quite crowded, so I hardly swim alone. About "the guys" I saw them on saturdays and I will contact them next time I see them. They are already my daughter and my son idols since last time we followed them along the pool side while they were swimming with monos.. "De simmar som delfiner!!" my kids said.. ha ha ha..
Anyway thanks, I will do as you suggested.

Ciao Matteo.

Hey,

of course I meant the freediving training with buddies, not the swimming training! :)

Equalization - at pool depth you could do it mostly with negative dives, but I suggest you not to do negative (empty lung) dives, because even in small depth you can hurt your lung (i.e. when suddenly coughing, or with a sudden stronger exctraction), and there is a higher risk of BO also.
I'm sure the guys will help you with new eq. technics, and explain, how to do, what to watch for.

dive safe (and deep :)),
ciao,
Jee
