Hey,folks. It was a pleasant suprise to stumble upon this forum. I was searching for information on building my own speargun, as some scurvy ******* stole the gun Ive had for 20+ years last week. Once I started reading I just couldn't stop. Theres a TON of great info here, and the people are helpful and polite. Not to mention the great stories and pics!
I've lived in the Florida Keys most of my life, and fished and dove more of it than not. I have been an avid spearfisherman and commercial lobster diver since i was a teenager. Well I've said HI, and hope to get to know some of you, but I've been sitting here for almost three hours going through Deeper Blue and my back hurts. Time to drop the boat off the davits, gas up, and head out for some late afternoon Hogfish on the patch reefs off of Sugarloaf Key.

SeeYA!

Welcome from Texas! Let us know how the gun build goes.

Yeah, I'm planning to post pics and an explanation of the build as i go. Ive gotten so many great ideas from the equipment forum, maybe my build could help someone else. Or at least get a laugh.

Hi Capt Ron. Welcome to DB. You sound just like me the first time I found this site. If you REALLY want to burn a lot of time, start reading the Freediving Stories section, and keep going back beyond the first page, lots of great tales.

Hi! Welcome to DB. I also live in the lower keys and love to freedive spearfish. Goodluck with your gunbuild!

Hello Captain Ron! I used to live in Florida myself! (Tampa Bay Area) Lived down the street from a man also named Ron who had a huge boat...my sister and I called him Captain Ron! Welcome!

haha thanks
i love hog fish great fish to look at and eating is second to none.
being in the keys you should have plenty to show us on deeperblue. i wish you safe and good hunting down there bro.

Oh Wow, Im going NUTS waiting for the trigger and track I ordered. Its been a week and I paid for priority shipping. Ive gotta make a phone call.

In the mean time, you could perhaps, tell us what you are planning to build - two band mid handle?

OK I called. The track is on back order, but should be here this week. Alas Tropical Storm Bonnie is knocking on my door tonight. It would have been nice to have the parts and stay inside all day tomorrow and work on my gun while it stormed outside. I've hattened down the batches and am off to a hurricane party at the Sugarloaf Lodge Marina. :friday Oh yeah the gun I was planning on building will be an enclosed track 5/16 shaft, 3 piece teak laminate, mid-handle, blue water/deep reef gun, Neptonics and Darryl Wong parts. I'll try and post some pics of the storm tomorrow.

welcome to DB good luck on the build and hope you weather this storm well...seems your off to the right start:friday

Well seems we dodged a bullet, Bonnie went to our north. Hope you are faring well in Miami Settingsteel. Looks like you got the brunt of it.
