Title says it all really :D

Im a 21 y/o male from Norwich called "Harris" [<-- Yeah its my first name] looking to get into spearo, I love fresh fish and would eat it a lot more often if I could afford it [the gf says its too much money] which is fair cop as we are doing the student thing at the moment. It's not like we are poor or anything but I struggle to persuade her that the side of [insert fish name here] would be worth the £14.

I think it will be a great way to keep fit, do some exploration and having to catch your own dinner by hunting on your own breath hold sounds exhilarating.

I have read the forums for a while but there are a few bits of information that I am struggling to find. Does anyone know whether spearfishing in the lake district is ok? I went on their site and it only talked about rod fishing

Also I gather that the coastline around lancaster area [black pool etc] are less than clean and is probably muddy. Does anyone know of nice areas nearby that would be a bit gentle for a newbie? North Wales is not too far of a journey I guess... Do people spear during winter? I have pretty much missed summer and I guess the weather is too rough for coastal fishing.

Also are there any brands of speargun or other equipment I should steer clear off? Or take a look at [Though I realise it will be largely on personal preference].

Many thanks.

Azure.

For guns, spearo.co.uk do a nice looking range of cheapish guns (cazador and venom) as do apnea.co.uk.

If you fancy a trip up to North Wales your welcome to come out with us either off the beach or out of the boat. As for winter rofl forget it! my dick shrivels up with the cold and my missus dies laughing rofl

You might seriously consider starting with shore angling this winter and then take up diving when the water gets relatively warm in the spring. Honestly, if the gf objects to the cost of fish, wait until she sees the cost of dive gear! A rod, reel, some line and hooks cost a whole bunch less.

Come on Sarge old boy rofl You can remember what it felt like to be 21 cant you? Spearfishing or sat on a damp rock with a rod and a rollie rofl

Hahaha, might be an idea Sarge. Or a winter break somewhere hot perhaps?

In either case if it is rainy and miserable I would rather be under the waves than sat getting a square backside waiting for something to bite instead of actively hunting my dinner!

Cheers though :)

Actually, I'm a lot braver now than I was when I was 21! Back then, with new wife and newer daughter, sitting on a rock with "hope and line" was big stuff. No, really! :D

HAha, welcome, Azure! Here's hoping you can get into spearfishing. Why not try to bring the girlie along? That's one way to win 'em over.
Feel free to stick around :) it's fun!

Oh I intend to, im still looking for legislation about lake spearing here in the UK.

If I can get the Mp3 on her head and give her detailed instructions as to how to make a sustainable fire on the shore then I can waddle into the gloom and come back with some BBQ tastylicious-ness!
