i want to start spearfishing, i am new to the sport. i was just wondering if there are groups in new york to meet people that also spearfish or is it a solo sport. i was also wondering if the fish in new york are safe to eat?

Those are good questions.

Spearfishing shouldn't be a Solo Sport. Best to have Dive Buddies.

As far as eating the fish, that you would want to check with the local fisherman and the lake you are fishing out of.

Keep looking around for dive buddies. I know of a few in the DC area, but I don't think that will help you much.
