Welcome to DB. Libya is a desert state, right? Do they have a coast? What's the diving like? Pardon my ignorance of geography.

Dave.

Welcome lopen79. Cool profile pic (it's a good size for your Avator image too, if you want it to show in the header to your posts too )

Libya sounds very exotic. Would love to see & hear more about your sea shore / techniques, etc.. What's the water temperature like - do you use a wetsuit?

hello mr x
thanx for your notes
well you know Libya located on the southern coast of medetiranin sea with coast length about 1900 km ... spearfishing is some what popular here ... for me i am still beggener i used cave technique before some years in shallow waters only 8m now i am more interesting about ambosh and searching tech
but the thing is i have to work on my breath hold and relaxation .. so if you suggest any tips it will be thankful ... yes i use wetsuite .. water temp in winter about 16c in the summer about 20c

The apnea/freediving section of the forum is the place to go to learn about increasing your breath hold & diving deeper, and of course about the safety aspects involved. Things can become more dangerous when you push your limits. I tend not to push things but find my diving times/depth naturally tends to improve through the season (and then deteriorates again over the winter!). A newbie British woman freediver did very well recently, I think she did yoga before freediving, which includes relaxation and breathing exercises & techniques.

There are several good threads on spearing techniques. There is a very good one started by SASpearo some years ago. There was also an new active thread running on this a week or two ago. Ambush technique sound like what the Italians call Aspetto (although they have several words for various types of ambush technique), where you dive down, often into weed cover and wait for various fish to come into investigate. I think the French call it agauchon (my spelling might be wrong).
