Welcome! February, in Scotland? You're a hardy pair! This time of year (Feb./March) tends to be the coldest and quietest for fish, even down here on the south coast. Many fish (e.g. bass) move south to stay in warmer waters & breed. Others, perhaps, move to deeper waters nearby. I find 6m a good depth in the summer down here on the south coast. I think shell fish (scallops/oysters) and flat fish, in shallow estuaries/harbours seem to be the limit of most people's hopes this time of year. Not sure if you get those in Scotland, or bass for that matter. However, you do get lobster, lots sometimes. Forum member Omega3 dives up there, Aberdeen too I think - might be worth sending him a private mail (or public "visitor message"). He is a professional diver, probably worth getting to know.

You also sometimes come across areas that are netted, either trawled or gill netted, or dredged into oblivion. But I suspect the season is the main issue.

Is this the place? Looks cool, like Tintagel in Cornwall. I would expect too see fish around there if it were on the S. coast of England, in the summer.

Re: hi to scotisch spearos {but not only}

Welcome Robin. Sounds like Aberdeen is developing a bit of spearo scene. ;)

Hi guys

I have been out a fair bit the past month or so. have had alot more success up north - at pennan. plenty of pollock around to be had. though i dont have a boat so its a bit of a pain getting out deep enough, as its so shallow all the way out!

would be good to hear if you've had any success anywhere!

Cheers
robin

hi robi, pennan you say hm im day off tomorow so maybe willl go there with my friend, we didnt heave much luck around here lots of small fish but nothink worth shooting in stoneheaven or cove. There was special place in pennan?how deep did you dive and how fare was it from shore? who know maybe we will go together for a dive some day.but bare in mind that we are stlii novice hihi.

Heelo guys

I've just joined DB and am searching fo r any freedivers in Edinburgh- do you know any at all? I sometimes go up to Inverness too, so anyone interested around there would be really good. Good luck with your spear fishing...and do you find 5mm warm enough?
Bye

hi fishcake i see there is more scotish DB members there i was thinking 5mm its fine as long you not stay in the water fore long time 2h its max for me after its getting cold but its depends im quite skinny so maybe thats why. my frend got 7,5mm and he never get out of the water before me.its ok in the summer its cold here in winter.

Thanks fishy. I'm just going to buy some gloves and socks of 5mm. and I'll choose cressi 3000 LD because they say they are good in cold water and remain flexible.
bye:wave

Hi guys. yep. i've only got a 5mm suit too. fine for a couple of hours. In Pennan, i just drove to the end of the street (there is only one street!) to the car park, and got straight in the water. water is very shallow, so try and go at high tide. swim out about 100m (past the sandy spots to where there is more vegetation).

May give it another go this sunday, conditions dependent. will let you know how i get on. if you fancy organising a joint trip one of these weeks, just drop me a note.

cheers

Robin

Alright folks!
Spearo up in Shetland here.
Will have to pop down your way sometime give it a bash.
Good to see a few folk in Scotland braving the cold ;)
