Hi, l'm Paolo Zavalloni (zava), i'm wrinting from Trieste, in the north of italy. I'm crazy in Spearfishing, normally i fish in North Adriatic sea and sometimes in other Croatian/Italian coasts of Mediterranean sea. I like also to build my own euro-style spearguns mostly with mahogany wood.
Bye.

Hi there. How is spearing up north? What sort of fishes do U catch, at what depth and how cold is it? Is it better at the Adriatic? What about Croatia.. I've heard it's freezing cold..Welcome.

Welcome from Texas! It's cold here right now--5' C. :t

Mostly we fish mullets/seabrems/seabasses occasionally dentex and pelagics like leerfish and amberjacs . The depth vary from the "flat" zones near the "po river delta" (mostly few meters) to the higher depth near croatia with 20/30/60 mt near the cost (on islands like Dugi Otok in central Croatia). Here in the Trieste Gulf, depth are from 4 to 30mt , the temperature vary from 6-5 degrees in winter to 24-25 in august and visibility from 2 to 8 mt. We use short single band arbaletes 75/90 cm here in the gulf (with 6-6.5mm shafts), and longer (100-115) single/double band arbaletes in Croatia (with 6.5-7mm shafts).

Intresting! And I believed that the 14-15 degrees we have during the cold months is cold.! I use a 8mm jacket and 5mm pair of trousers what about U?

Normally i don't spearfish when the temperature is lower than 8-9 degrees, and also i use 8mm jacket with 5mm trousers but with "salopette" configuration. Here we have 14-15 degrees in november normally.
In the Trieste Gulf the water is very cold because there are a lot of rivers/freshwater , going in Dalmatia zone of Croatia the water is hotter.

Looks good.. Two band 16mm and a 6.5mm shaft? That's the set up I have on the 110 wood, the spreargun I use the most.. however I have another 110 carbon with 3x16 band and a 7.2 shaft for special occasions..

No its configuration is with double 18mm bands and 7mm x 140cm shaft. The band stretch factor can vary from 300% to 330% according to the rubber type.
