Never used either one, so, not quite sure which one to choose :)
Are there any benifits to using one over the other?
For example, I've noticed (though I may be wrong) that spearfishers prefer long jong, while competitive freedivers - high waist.

Thanks

I am primarily a spearfisher and prefer the high waist pants. I fold them over about 8cm so that there is a seal against water entering through the bottom of the jacket. This gives open-cell to open cell contact, effectively keeping me dry. Plus I wear a 3mm vest over top of the suit.
If you were to buy a long-john suit that was open cell out from the waist up on the johns, it would do the same thing, plus you'd have a little extra insulation.
Cheers,
Erik Y.

I would do waist high.
I find im in the water for up to 5 hours when spearfishing, every time i want to take a leek i have to get back on the boat take of the jacket pull down my long johns releave my self lube up and put the whole lot back on again.
Do that 3 or 4 times and you start to think about just going in your suit.
Im going to get a comfort zip put in my long johns to make life a bit easier

Crusty

High waste.
Easier to breath, easier to move and i think it's actually warmer as the jacket fits better with it.

good Idea - never thought of that. Maybe we should talk to Elios for an outside-open-cell border at the top of high-waist pants to get the same effect.

I like the protection of the back (kidneys) of high-waist pants but still they provide freedom of movement in the shoulder area, so high-waist pants are my first choice.

I think the Cressi freediving suits have an extra flap that comes down to seal against the inside of the jacket, and I know Picasso makes one like that.
Elios would probably do the same thing if requested, for a few more $$
