I know for most of you fellas it probably is simple, routine stuff. But I thought it would take me longer to reach 2 minutes while doing actual dives in open water. I was reaching 5 minutes dry static long time ago, probably last fall. But whenever I hit the water it was always different, my statics were down to 3 minutes with a lot of struggle, and dynamics never over 1:35, with considerable effort.

But yesterday I was kind of carried away looking around, coasting along the bottom and then looked at the stopwatch to realise it was 1:48. I went up because I thought it would be a proper time, no contractions and just a slice of discomfort building up. All following dives where in the same area, under 2 minutes but comfortably over 1:40 at the bottom, very relaxed, pleasant even. This definitely is my new level of performance, I am so happy, look ->>> :blackeye - this happy. Just wanted to share

I can't wait for the moment where I can enjoy underwater for 2 min or more. I can comfortably do a dry static of 4 min, 5x with 2 min recovery, but my wet static is always down to 2 min and 1 min when I'm diving and swimming. Not until I took in to account what Efattah wrote on my post last week about the effect of water temp, constantly moving, and breathing. I don't dive with a wetsuit just yet and I do get chills most of the time, which I'm sure affects my CO2 tolerance, but I applied what he said about "staying still" and just focused on breathing through snorkle. Since then, I was able to do 1:30 comfortably. Not bad of an increasing considering all I did was read and applied. Thanks again Efattah! I don't know if a wetsuit will give a drastic change on breath hold. I can only assume it will, since It will make the dive and swimming more comfortable. I'm a newb so I'm not really sure. But congrats on your accomplishment! Enjoy the blue!

Rvt86, I firmly believe that comfort is one significant factor in longer ocean dives. The other factor could be called distraction.

I spearfish coldish waters and if nothing is happening my dive times are around 1m, but if there are lots of interesting fish around, those times more than double.

A bloke needs something to do for that second minute, and watching fish is kind of fun.

Congratulations Andrew the fish. Awesome. Don't get carried away and drown now! :-)
