just a couple of newbie q's first of all does anyone know if spearfishing is legal in massachusetts, second, once you spear the fish ....then what??? thanks for the help

Hi New,

I dont know the regulation in ur place but one thing for sure we shoot to eat the fish. We are not killers , we are hunters. So aim at those u like eating........please.

Have Fun,
IYA

Hi New,

Ooops Sorry !! Use a thin knife good for hunting. Poke on the head somewhere behind the eyes and spin it around left-right. U can tell by the way it "shiver", mercy killing. This is less bloody and faster than gill removal.

See ya,
IYA

If you haven't a knife handy - although you really should'nt spear without one , you can also brain it with the spear barb . I find it faster than removing my knife for medium sized fish .

What I usually do is to brain them with my stringer spike.
I've got this very sharp spike like thing on my stringer and stick it into the gills into the brain. I find that it is better for me to string them trough their eyes because I dive between the kelp a lot and I pull the float trough it. If I string them trough the gills they tend to tear off.

My 2 cents.

Cheers SaFishShooter
