Holiday Guernsey 2008

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Congrats to OMD! Shame about the conditions but people have done well in other areas!

Evening all, just got home after the Guernsey Holiday and so a quick note to say THANKS VERY MUCH for a more than great time.
Even though the weather didn’t play ball and the vis and sea conditions weren’t at there best I can say with complete confidence that Jim and myself had a great time with some wonderful people.
A special thanks to Mart and Sarah, Colin and Mandy and of course Dave and Helen for there hospitality and patience with a couple of UK mainland drunkards.:friday:friday:friday:friday
It was good to put a few new faces to the names from the forum, so nice to meet you Tom, Jonny and Graham.
If I’ve missed anybody then I’m sorry but it’s been a long day.
Roll on next year people.
Best
Paul

I echo everything that Podge said!! Had a fantastic time and the hospitality was second to none! The food was nothing short of first class and the alcohol flowed freely! Special thanks to Foxy, OMD, Sarnian, Jonny250 and their families for making us feel very welcome. Great to see Derek again and meet some new guys - Magpie and fishing guru Dave.

Thanks to everyone for taking us out and trying to put us on the fish! The vis was against us a bit especially the last couple of days where we were like blind men in orgies - having to feel our way around. The good thing is that if we can still have a brilliant time in that weather then surely next year we cant fail?!?

I am now on a de-tox for a couple of months as my body is close to destruction - Podges fault!

Beautiful day today, no wind but just enough surf for Graham to have a go & calm enough for Graham to have a dive! He reported very clear water in the shallows!

So do I Jim!

Back home now - washing done, suit disinfected, lawn mown and dinner cooked!

What a week! The wind conspired against us, the waves conspired against us, the vis conspired against us, and the fish conspired against almost all of us! The islanders, however, conspired to show us a magnificent time that made up for all of the above.

Special thanks go to Sarnian and Mandy, for a Paella that even podge couldn't finish; to Foxy's mate Dave for showing us the best hostelries; to soul man Dave ( wouldn't have made it across the rocks without the loan of his soles!), and Helen; and,of course, to Foxy and Sarah for the fantastic meals and hospitality they provided during our stay.

When I get to posting pics I'll put up the one of Podge holding what appears to be a lobster, but is in fact just one claw!!

Special thanks also go to OMD for accompanying us in what for him were normally un-divable conditions. The night dive was highly memorable and I got to experience at first hand OMD's sole sonar, as he proceeded to see 5 to my 0!

It was great to meet other members including Podge, Stuckinsurrey, Derek even older, Magpie and Jony 250, and I hope to meet with you all again sooner or later.

Once again thanks to Foxy for taking the trouble to organise, and do much of the work for, this event - including reminding me how to successfully fish for mackerel on the days the weather was really bad!

Very best wishes to all

Birchy

I would also like to thank all the participants in this years fish-in, I think we all enjoyed each others company & I certainly enjoyed cooking for such an appreciative bunch of guys & girls.
See you next year if not before?
