I am mostly spearing smaller rivers and lakes and didn't have the cash to buy a spear or speargun so i looked into making my own.

I used
fiberglass rod
small finishing nails
sheet metal
1/4" steel rod
eye hooks
latex surgical tubing
parachute cord
small cord/rope or shoe lace
45 lb. steel leaders
steel beads

power drill
vise
metal drill bits (various sizes)
hammer
vise grips
sander
metal file
hack saw

good stuff man, I will say one thing. Shorten your wishbones and lengthen your rubbers. You want to take advantage of as much of the length of the spear as you can since you are already limited with range. Not sure why you went with such long wishbones but incase your worried about bending the fibre glass rodd just twist the spear as you load it. Keeps the pole straight by wrapping it with the band.

I like the slip tip too.

thanks guys :) Yes I hunted with then already, they performed really well, I did end up shortening the wishbone, I was unsure at first and I also made three more so far, and just the other day I finished my first prototype of a Hawaiian Sling, oh and no I didnt make the fiberglass rods i got them from Farm&Fleet they were sold as electric fence posts.

Thanks again,
Chris

Oh and thanks for the advice about twisting the spear, it makes sense and I noticed an improvement already thanks :)
