Hello!

I currently live in New Zealand in the South Island near a place called Queenstown, as a hobby I like to go Gold Fossacking in the once gold abundant rivers. I've completed dive training a little past Dive Master and had though about using Scuba Diving to dive in the rivers to further my hobby.

In the rules of recreational Gold Fossacking it states that Suba Diving is not really allowed, but you are allowed to Free Dive. Now what is also allowed is using homemade underwater breathing devices, like a hose leading out of the water to the surface.

Does anyone one know of a good cheap homemade underwater breathing device?

Any help would be appreciated!

Does a rebreather count as a home-made device?

If so then many people (myself included) have made rebreathers, it isn't that hard if you have some skill. However they do require attention whilst using.

My website: www.lizardland.co.uk and another www.sump4.com plus if you look on Rebreatherworld www.rebreatherworld.com there are loads of people who have built RB's.

If you want a simple surface supply then it a pneumatics/hydraulics shop should be able to make up a 30m hose for not a lot of money. Leave the cylinders on the surface and feed a reg via the long hose. You would need some bail out though, like a small tank with a normal reg on it.
