Honduras - Roatan

Hi guys,

I have an option to visit the island of Roatan just off the coast of Honduras for 10 days at the beginning of September. My friend is diving out there so I will be visiting him but will have free time on my hands during the day whilst he is out doing his thang. I think I will only go if there is a chance of catching fish off the shore but I hear the reefs are over dived and over fished which does not sound too good for spearfishing... Apparently, the only places worth fishing are out of range of the locals boats but that is a long boat ride away.

I can't find too much information on this destination and I don't really think there are many Central American spearos on DB. Does anyone know any other spear fishing forums which may have a large population of central american spearos?

Why didint you ask mate!! I was out there Feb/March 2008!! and then on to Utila.
Give me a ring at the weekend and I will talk you through it!!!! its not to good for spearing, not many fish and lots of marine parks. Nice freediving with the whale sharks and turtles tho.
you diving at the weekend? will be off west prob on Sunday if this wind sorts itself out!

Ah nice one, thanks Dave! I am fishing in N.Wales this weekend then down in COrnwal the weekend after! We need to sort something out though for a few days in late August...? Maybe show Steve M how to fish back up t'north!
