3pm I get a message from John86 "low at 10pm", followed by a favourable viz report for the south coast. He has been bothering me since November about spearfishing again.
Moaned to my wife about but not knowing how to block him on my mobile phone and got another text later "12v electric blanket". Not sure what happened next but despite my better judgement at 5pm it was agreed "game on".
Didn't seem that foolish, 9c in the water but 5c out the water so would be warmer in than out. It started lashing down as we drove into Cornwall which then turned to hail.
I never spear in March, why would you?, but surprised how comfortable it was changing into gear at 10.30pm, helped by a thermos of hot soapy juice. Viz was patchy, good where it was clear, but fresh water patches blurring focus. Oddly John came back in with a Garfish and I missed a Mackerel. The Garfish were in a pair and the Mackerel on its own. We were expecting Flaties and Cod/Whiting. So the season starts 0:1 in his favour.
Got out about midnight, disturbed some doggers, then headed back wrapped up in an electric blanket until we could get MC apple pies to return our core temperatures to normal. Happy Days and wicked Nightz.
