Hello

How deep can you dive in a lake / the sea / a swimming pool without any tools (just your mask and your wet suit)? How old are you and for how long do you freedive?

it's a nonsense to dive in water with a wet suit without fins...
i mean come on ppl....a 5 mm wet suit is like a baloon...be serrious:D

Wes (Wes here on DB) co holds the US record for no fins, 48M I believe. A few weeks ago he did 30M when I was out with him in a lake (3mm suit). This is in Oregon, USA. I am not sure how old he is, I forgot, but in his mid thirties? Of course he is using weights, two pounds I think. He could do an FRC dive with no weights and probably get 30M + or -, you would have to ask him for sure though.

I have never tried no fins, I will give it a shot in the next month and see what I can do.

My PB (personal best) in constant weight without fins is 13 meters, but I haven't really tried so far. I like my fins - a lot! :t
@vali: The wetsuit isn't that big a problem, that's what we have lead for, right? ;)

i never tryed to go deep without fins
what is the point of doing that?
but i know that i can easely go to 6m only equiped with my bath suit
but once again?
what is the point to dive without fins?

Okay, 'only mask and wet suit' - I assume a wet suit is (when diving) nothing without ballast.
About what the point is - what's the point in diving? I guess some people like it. :D
Personally I also prefer fins, but I did notice there's something about having less gear on You.

of course it is posible to dive with a wetsuit f.e. 5mm and without fins and weight
there are certain techniks you can use to freefall down.
the problem will be to equalize and the tightness and..

i was missunderstood!
i said what is the point to go deep without fins?
not what is the point of diving...in generally
the question was how deep you can dive?...etc
and about the pleasure....i rather dive naked :D, but with my fins on foots
ok...no more offtopic from me:p

when i wear a 5 mm wetsuit [like the one in my avatar], in the red sea, i float above the water with my shoulders up
i tryed to go down but after 2 m i was pulled out at the surface, and trust me...i don-t need equalization at 2 m depth:p
i still think that it is pointless...
if i want to dive without gear, so i live my wetsuit on the shore and i go deep without that

I have to aggree with vali, theres no way u can dive with just your wet suit and goggles, its impossible, you just barley go under the surface and pop bk up again

I tried it with my 3 mil down to around ten meters - no weights. Loved it when surfacing, I thought I'ld clear the water like a dolphin!

In 2000 I tried doing a dive with an 8mm wetsuit, no fins, no weight belt.

I had to do a 100% exhale, and stroke like a madman. I made it to about 4m, and nearly blacked out on the ascent.

I once did a practice rescue in the pool with a 5mm suit, no fins and no weight belt. I did manage to get to the bottom, about 4m, and 'rescue' my buddy, but not something I would want to do often.

managed about 3m in my 6.5mm with full lungs and was practically airborne, feet first the ascent was so rapid.

total waste of energy in My opinion.

All this goes to show that correct weighting is important for safety. An incorrectly weighted buddy may be unable to perform a rescue from even a few metres, and trying to swim up/down against resistance from incorrect weighting may result in a blackout.
