Is there a consensus on the right frequency of equalisations when using the Frenzel - like 'drip-feeding' air continuosly into the eustachian tubes all the way down or spacing out the equalisations to preserve the available air held in the mouth? Any ideas would really help freedivers like me who find themselves limited by equalisation and not by breathold ability.

I don't think there is a consensus.
I equalize very frequently.
By 'very' I mean that I do it alteast every meter, if not 2-3 times per meter.
I don't really take my equalizing hand of my mask, defnitly not shallower than 15m.

I equalize so often because that's how it feels right to me.

Rationalization-wise: less stretching of the eardrum = no long term damage to hearing (there are some speculations about that regarding freediving).
Also, hydrostatic perssure works on the softest tissues first, in this case: the e-tubes themselves rather than the eardrum. So when you already feel your eardrums it's after the e-tubes have narrowed to some extent, which might mean tougher equalization.

that's interesting deepthought, thanks. Personally I find I equalise once every 2 or three metrs (I think - it certainly feels that way. )i am experimenting with a few things - like really inflating my mouth with air almost to bursting point at 25m in order to have the best chance of equalising at greater depths. Another thing I am trying is to keep the e-tubes open as much as possible after each equalisation, to see if that preserves greater amounts of air. Does anyone know how often the really deep divers equalise?
