Hi!
I was wondering if someone can give me some advice about proper balancing in CW.I regularly dive to 30-35mt and I use 3 kgs of weight .Also I use a 3mm suit.I've heard that I should balance myself so that i'm neutral at about 15mt(half that depth I'm planing to dive).I plan to dive to 40-50mt.Should I now balance myself to be neutral at 20mt?Is there some formula to determine at what depth I should be neutral?
Alex

I always dive without any weights. Doesn't matter if I use no suit, my 3mm suit or my 5mm suit, diving in salt or lake water. It's somewhat harder to dive down, but I almost don't have to do anything when I turn around. For me that gives a feeling of safety, also my buddy is much more at ease with this.

For depths down to 30m, you should be neutral at 2/3 of the maximum depth you are going for.

Ex. If you plan to dive to 18m, then you should be neutral at around 12m. Diving to 30m, be neutral at around 20m.

For depths deeper than 30m, most athletes choose to be neutral at around 20m, so the 2/3 "rule" doesn't apply.

i heard somewhere that your mouth should be submerged in water if you are in an upright position and breathing normallly, but that was for spearfishing, im guessing for pure freediving you might want to take it easy on the weights.

The rule I go by is positive with empty lungs on the surface, neutral at 33', negative after that.
