Jonta,

hi and welcome to DeeperBlue for a start. :wave
The first thing You need is a buddy. Don't play with this alone. If You don't have a buddy, then You don't dive.
As for lead, that is very hard to decide. It's unlikely that any of your current problems will be solved by adding lead, so I'd say no need for it yet, if ever.

Take a look at the thread on How to start freediving in this section of the forum. That will answer some questions, raise even more and likely answer those as well - at least partly. :)

Have fun and enjoy the ride, but stay safe!

Sanso

When i asked about weight i ment more if thers normally any need for weights if you dont use any wetsuit when diving around 10m down. Is there?

Hi Jonta, welcome to DB!

I agree with Sanso, find a able buddy!

For deep diving, without suit, one does not need any weights.
Practice your duckdive, you'll be amazed how much you can improve on it, saving much energy and getting deeper by just improving your technique.

It's a great journey, and it's even better when you can share it with an able buddy!

Buddy, Courage and water,

Kars

Sorry, there's no easy answer. :)
The weight issue is very individual. Ask 10 people and You get 20 different versions of "works for me". You'll just have to find out whatever works for You.

Well Sanso, indeed 10 different awsers are possible, but not all of them are likely ;)

These days I can take a lot of air with me, I guess arround 6,5 - 7Liters and at the surface I'm 3kg boyand. If I where to dive without suit to 10m and I would go full lungs, I would not need any weight(s). I would make one good duckdive, two strokes and glide the rest slowly down and find myself just slightly negative or about nutral (not floating up). Good enough for watching wildlife, experiencing the pressure, relaxing, enjoying the light etc. Perhabs If I were hunting I would like to have one or two kilo's of weight, to make ik really easy to get down and duck behind some cover to catch some fish. But going up would be heavier, especially with short or no fins (could even be scary !).

One of the first freedives I did was with an scuba suit on and plenty of weight. I went down in the med to about 7m and find myself for the first time Negativly boyand! It was a scary, "oh shit" experience. With my big open heeled fins I could push through, but at the surface it was like, I have to much weight!. I whore a 7mm suit with 6kg of weights diving with my brother.

In general for practising I recommend NO weights, even with a suit. Than you'll become really good and efficient in duckdiving and waterentry in general.

But offcause your buddy can comment on your technique and results too :)

Buddy, courage and water,

Kars

A 50m dynamic with fins swimming with bi fins will be around 50 sec. Just so you know.

Thanks for the replys. I will try to find a buddy then. And no weights....
mabye later when i got a wetsuit.

Find a buddy. A buddy will give you motivation and support in addition to safety. Having a buddy also equals more fun.

If i do 3min static is there anyway of telling about what my dynamic time whould be?
Or is it very diffrent from person to person?

Try it. That will take less time than thinking about it and posting/reading here. - And it's more fun! :D

I don't believe you can simply equate your dynamic time from static times. Simply put, it differs from person to person. I personally suck at dynamic with fins. For me, when I had a 2 and 1 half min hold, I do remember doing that 50m swim I was talking about above. Right now my holds have doubled, but my dynamic with fins hasn't gotten better. It might even be getting worse. Dynamic without fins is another story.

Cheers.

To give you an idea of how much it can vary with training, I haven't been able to swim (no matter how slow) for 25% of my static best. Without a pool I just don't train dynamic.

I did 3:02 yesturday. I dont think thats so bad progress from 55sek to 3min in 10days.
And i will try dynamic tommorrow whit some friends. No fin yet thoughe.

Hi Jonta

Which static excersizes are you doing right now? I am also still very new to this form, and I travelling a lot, so don't really have time to search for adequete excercizes on all posts.

Thanks
Corneil

Hi Jonta,

Your static breath hold is pretty impressive for some one who is very new to the sport. I myself am new to freediving and my static breath holds suck! My PB is like 2:15 but I have done a 70m dynamic - thats before I got sick:head I haven't really done any proper training tables, atleast not consistently but since you've shown vast improvement i think I'll be getting a little more serious about it, especially since I'll be getting all my new gear soon and want to give it a good run.

Keep up the training and keep us posted on your times. At 15y/o you've got all the time in the world so don't rush it!

When I was hunting in the Adriatic I always had fins and a wetsuit (single piece with shorts and short sleeves)... I found that because it's sort of 'spongey'... it makes you float, and expend a lot of energy to get down and stay down when you're trying to hunt.

Finally my buddy told me I needed weight, and indeed it was weird at first, but the weights definitely helped me be able to relax and stay down longer and fish... I have a hard time imagining going without weight now!... but if you have no suit or fins, then I definitely would avoid weights. I can't imagine hunting without fins... and the weight does get to you after a couple hours... if you are not in shape you will get tired. (I was not in good enough shape... could only hunt for about 2 hours, my buddy Zvonimir could go for 4, easily :head ...man, I gotta start working out more!!! :martial
