Have a big dive trip coming up in a few weeks and have been doing cardio two days a week and pool dynamic training three days a week.

Question I have is that if I do dynamic training three days could or should I be doing static the days in between?

I think if you are already comfortable doing freedives that doing statics won't really improve your abilities - unless you want to compete in statics. If you can get into the deep end of the pool just do practice dives there - do some half lung or empty lung dives to the bottom to simulate depth and pressure. Don't really go for distance as much as depth and spending time at depth - make it more relaxed than having a goal for distance.

Good advice Mark.
What do you think about dry dynamics? Where I can push myself more without the fear of swb and if I fall in the grass don't break too many bones. lol
You feel that type of training transfers well to the water?
Thanks
Scott

Lots of guys do "apnea walking". It just doesn't appeal to me - I like being underwater :) Also it doesn't simulate the pressure of deep water. But you are correct, if you don't have a buddy then pushing yourself in pool work can be dangerous. I usually do pool work alone because I can't find a buddy - but I don't really push myself either - and I tell the life guard what I am doing.
What I like to do is get in the deep end and drop a weight at one end. I empty half my air then I do my duck dive to the weight and then hang on the bottom for about a minute - the first 20 or 30 seconds of this minute simulates the relaxed "drift to the bottom" phase of a real dive - the second 30 seconds represents the "exploring or spearfishing or whatever" phase. Then I kick across the bottom of the pool to the other side and surface - this represents the "return to surface" phase of a real dive. So my simulated dive is a dive to 75 feet -without the ear problems or pressure. Also the "kick to the surface" is really a horizontal swim and is easier.
