I have never started a poll since Ive joined Db and havent started a new thread in a while so I thought why not combine the two :)
What Im wondering is this, how often do we here on DB log into the site? I think it might be interesting to see who is here when and for how long, hey what do you know the moderators mite even use the info to the advantage of the site :)
Cheers and save diving to you all

Hmm, I miss the option "logging in only once and staying online forever". I simply have DB open in a separate tab of a browser that I never close anyway (I am an IT professional working on the web), so just click on the DB tab each time I wait for something (i.e. compiling) or am tired with the work.

EDIT: also the option "Every so often whenever Im bored" is rather confusing, since you can be bored and check DB every 5 minutes, or less than once a year :D

Well as I said this is my first poll I started so lets consider it as a learning curve :D
With the last option I mean every so often when Im bored and remember ah I wonder if theres something new on that blue deep site I subscribed to a while back :)

I usually log in daily during the week and just leave it open and on the weekends I check it every time I get a notification..... so a little of both.....

I am also member of another board (Pescasub.com) where somehow they keep track of how much time every member has spent logged in. As a member you can also see how much time you has spent on the board, but you can not see other members time.

I was afraid to answer the poll, everybody might discover just how obsessive I can be! I log on most workdays, and leave it open in a tab. Usually read a couple posts, play at the Acronym game (beats the print paper's puzzles! :)), then shut down before heading out into the field.

Surfline rates a close second, and probably contributes to my minor delinquencies ;)

I usually check in when I get home from school and while im doing my homework. Pretty often

I try to have a little look see most days.:)
How do you guys stay logged on and leave it on the task bar? If I leave it alone for more than a few minutes I get kicked off and have to log on again.

I usually log in more than once most days. When I am at college it is more difficult, but I still try to keep up to date with the important threads.

I log on for a quick scan a couple of times a day. This is probably because I'm a Mentor and get reeaaallllyyyyy obsessive about things I'm responsible for. Usually I only stay a couple of minutes, though, to check if there are any spamvaders on the part I'm sort of in charge of. You have to do it before you discover just how immensely satisfying it is to ban a villain. Buwahahahahahahahahah . . .

I click on the little box that says "Remember Me" but this means that your PC has to accept the cookie that DB leaves..... and you have to remember to log out at the end of the day.

Speaking of email notifications, Everytime I post in a thread It auto subscribes me and my inbox ends of with tons of db emails :)

Do you guys always select dont subscribe or is there something you can hit to make it default not subscribe?

I always try to look at it at least once a day, and I like to reply to any threads that grab my interest... :)

Sure - in your profile settings set the option "Default Thread Subscription Mode" to "No email notification".

I am adding some more tips:

The settings offer many other good possibilities, so it is definitely worth of going through all of them and adjusting as needed. For example I've set the page length to the max of 40 post per page because I do not like to navigate through tons of pages. I have also unchecked "show signatures", because I find it disturbing having to scroll through the same signatures (and often quite annoying and huge ones) over and over. When I want to see someone's signature, I simply click on his/her avatar and see it in his/her profile.

When traveling and being on a very slow connection, I make the number of posts per page smaller and disable also images and avatars - makes it much faster to load the pages.

As I wrote, I log in once and stay logged till the next time I have to reboot the PC (which happens about once a month). First I check my User CP to see if there are new replies to subscribed threads and read through them, and then I go to New Posts and read those that take my attention. If there are too many new posts, I first go to individual subforums that do not concern me (like diverse spearo subforums, salt-free, etc) and click Mark This Forum Read in Forum Tools - that removes all those irrelevant posts from the New Posts and I can scan through them easier and quicker. Once I read all posts that interest me, I click Mark Forums Read in Quick Links to clear the New Posts list.

Also, I always click on the small right arrow icon in the post list - it brings me directly to the first unread post in the given thread, and moves the last read flag to the last post (what does not happen when clicking on the thread name at a multi page thread).

I'm not working at the moment so I spend way too much time on Deeper Blue. Hell, we have cable tv and I still spend more time on DB!

A lot of the time my recruitment agency says they'll ring about a job so I have to sit by the phone at home, which could be decent gym time or seeing the sites of London :rcard But DB seems to get the most attention.
