Hey everyone.
Dry static I can go for 2m05s, which I know is not long at all, but when I do co2 tables, holding my breath for 1m10s, starting the rest at 2m, and decreasing that after each cycle over 8 cycles down to 30s (-15s each cycle), it feels quite easy, I only seem to get some minor-moderate discomfort near the end of each hold. Is this how I should feel or am I meant to be feeling a lot more desperate for air?

O2 tables also feel quite easy, building up to about a 1m30 hold.

I'm just asking how I should actually feel during and after each hold as I want to make sure I am doing them correctly seeing as I'm a complete beginner.

Thanks.

I'm just a beginner myself, but what you can read in a lot of threads here and what I know from others is that 2m rest is way too long. In this time you will easily be able to vent all your CO2 and that defies the purpose of a CO2 table. So you should reduce the rest time considerably and if that still feels easy then increase the hold time. Generally, the end should not be easy, as the purpose is to get used to high CO2.

What would you recommend as a starting rest time? And by how much should the rest period decrease each cycle?

Thanks for the replies guys, but I've still got a question about empty lung training. When I empty my lungs I hold my hand in front of my face and exhale until i can no longer feel any air coming from my mouth.

When I do this I get a fairly strong urge to breath almost immediately, after about 20 seconds it becomes too much and I start breathing again, yet I have seen people on here that can go for over 2 minutes on empty lungs. Am I doing the empty lung holds properly or should I only be exhaling enough to relax my diapragm? It just seems strange that I can only go 20 seconds and most other people can go considerably longer. I also do aerobic exercise very frequently.

If you relax completely for 7-8 minutes and take a deep breath, less than half the O2 in your body is in the lungs and when you exhale, the lungs are not empty. If you can't hold for 66% of max, that's why we train CO2 tables. Even if your training is nowhere near perfect, as long as you stay at it, you will get better for years. Aerobic exercise of 1 1/2 hours at 75%HR, the day before, has very little effect on my static.
