HOw to aim a speargun

how do i aim a rob allen railgun, or any railgun for that matter. any advice would be apreciated thanks and cheers​

Practice, Practice - and by practice I mean go and shoot fish- keep shooting until you hit them- you will learn how your gun shoots. you can "aim" by looking down the rail- but It's better to learn to shoot without doing that- cause you won't always be able to look down the rail. You can always sink some papercups or pop cans and shoot them too. Get in the Water and start shooting.

Get to swimming pool that's at least 2m deep and get ur weightbelt with u as well to help u sink down (or u can sink with empty lungs) and set up a foam or a target 4 to 7m from u (depending on the length of ur gun and ur goal) and then start aiming and notice where your aiming and shooting (e.g: if u are shooting too high or too low) then again many factors could influence your aiming (e.g: your line of sight when aiming, the set up of your gun etc...) so try to play with those factors until you believe you've reached your optimum in aiming.

But again in real situation (e.g: while spearfishing), it will take couple of missed shots till you perfectly get used to your new gun (for example, I used to shoot with a 120cm EURO riffe for over a year and my aiming was like a lazer, and when I started using my new omer cayman hf 110cm it took couple of missed shots till I became good at it again !)

also in some shalow waters, the streams can put you in some difficulties
the best way to do a good shoot is to wayt until the fish came close ennough
this is good because not only the accuracy, but to be shure that the fish will end on the spear

just use the gun as much as possible,you will start shooting fish when you become comfortable with the gun.To practice you should shoot the papercups/bouys by aiming it like a pistol just point n shoot

A fish in general is a long thin object right? So when you look down your gun there is a lot of forgiveness for a poor aim along the fishes length but very little in its height. You can sight the shot down the side of the barrel to reduce the possible error in your aim, if the barrel is pointing at the fish then the chances are the spear will hit it somewhere. A good friend of mine used a variation on that by turning her gun on its side and just aiming down the shaft.

Use something like that as a basis and bang away for an hour or so on some targets to perfect it. Once you get the idea and your confidence builds you will develop a technique of your own and you'll be sorted

if the fish is moving across you point at the tip of his mouth, you should get head shots. Pointing at the center of the fish would result in damaged fillets...not sure if your gun is open muzzle or at least convertible, but try it! It is very nice being able to see the whole spear whilst aiming.

my RA is a laser. just extend your shooting arm all the way out, and try and get as close as possible. then its just a line of sight thing. look past the end of the gun to your target. if everything looks square, squeeze the trigger.
trust me, the RA will practicly aim itself. it is a sweet gun

as bluewatermafia said just make sure that your arm is outstretched away from your face or body so that the gun doesn't give you a nice plump jaw =)

What he said. That's what Len Jones recommends in his excellent guide to spearing SA-style. Most RAs have a closed muzzle and no loading butt, so lend themselves to this style of aiming. Although I use this style when aiming, more often I find myself having to point & shoot "from the hip" or "shotgun style" (with both eyes open) as the opportunity is often fleeting.
