Hi guys,

As a novice in the discipline, there is something I don't understand in the apnea breathing technique, I have from time to time tried to perform sessions of static breath holding (in a dry environment), wether by using the Wim hof or freediving Trainer app. I often saw on the net, people saying we should breath first with the diaphragm (filling the low part of the lungs), then with the ribs and chest (middle part of the lungs) and finally the neck and shoulders (the top of the lungs). However, each time I'm using my chest or just inhale too much air (more than my diaphgram muscle can allow, which I suppose put pressure on the chest) I end up after 3 or 4 days of sessions (recently, it was 15-20 minutes of CO2 tables every day during 4 day) with intercostal pain and stopped my training (which is a little bit frustrating). Therefore, i wonder if I should just use my diaphragm but only by using something as 90% of its total capacity, or if these pains are just normal at the beginning (but I'm pretty sure it's not ahah) because my internal and external intercostal muscle gets tired (insofar as they are not used to it) ?

Any tips for me ?

Thanks for your time ;)
