Hi everyone !
I would like to ask if anyone knows if there are some charts, maps showing the depths around Thassos island in Greece ? I would need to know how steep the seabed is and if you can reach 20m somewhere close to the shore - maybe someone knows a seamap or has been to Thassos before. Of course it is for freediving without a boat.
Efcharisto :)

Hi Albert!
Where on Thassos will you be? When?
I have speared there the past 2 summers and will return this year too.
There are several places you can reach from the shore that go deep pretty fast...
Viz is usually good, but the fish are super alert...without a gun on you, you can nearly touch them...with a gun...they stay about 30cm out of range.... :)
The south part of the island is best...look for the cliffs...in front of the monastary is great.

There are some pretty nice spots but the fish are not too big and very alert.......

Good luck!

Hi Darryll,
I am planning to go to Skala Kallirachis near Potos. Mostly I just dive for fun, no gun but a small camera is my weapon :) I plan to go in August. Thanks for the tips, I heard about Kefalas Cape as well ? What wetsuit did you use ? 5mm overall ? I think about taking my bermuda 3mm but it might be cold so maybe 5mm would be a better choice ?
Tusen takk !

Hi Albert!
Kallirachi is West coast and Potos is south....the conditions vary massively between the areas but if you drive, there are always great places to dive.
Nice one with the cam! I recently bought a GoPro and a housing to fix the blur, so I will take some video and pictures too. There are a lot of great spots and I bet you will get some great pictures. Even if there is not a massive amount of life in the water, there is ALWAYS something to see. :)
The water in August should be quite warm...I use a 3mm open-cell (full arms/legs) and get very hot in July. I flood the suit regularily to keep cooler.
August is also the hottest month....so 5mm would be way over the top! But then, we are all different!
Kefelas, I have not dived...seen a lot of spearos out there however...and been told it is good diving. Great caves, if I am not mistaken some pinnacles sticking out of the water. My wife scuba dived in the area last year and loved it.
I will give it a go this year...
Make sure you have a bouy with you. There are a lot of boats in the area!!!!

Astris is also good....take the dirt road to "chill out beach" very nice beach...left from the beach along the shore 500m....you will find some very deep gorges...nice fish there too.
Left from the beach, some nice spots too...a bit shallower, but good too.

If I have time after my stay in Thassos (June 29- July 13), I will post some pics and give you a few more spots...

Enjoy! Thassos is one of my favourite places in the world!

Regards,
Darryll
