my t20 carbon speargun leaked a massive amount of water

i tried alot of things to drain the water but never worked

eventualy i decided to drill a hole and this worked

but i faced another problem

how to block this hole permanintly

second quistion:

i just bought x-fire 115cm that comes with 17.5 mm and and thin(6.25) and short(145cm) shaft

can this penetrate big fish

For the t20 u can fill that hole with epoxy and with time and salt water it will cure too.

As for the next question (penetration), it also depends on from how far ull be shooting at fish... but keep in mind that a 6.25mm is a thin shaft and can be very easily bent by large fish and it also lack the pushing power (penetration for large fish)... if ull be going for pelagic and in clear water, then larger guns (e.g: a 140cm railgun such as rob allen with 2*16mm bands and 7.9mm spear would do great (plenty of power, push, and lightweight gun for its size) or those riffe guns are also great).

1st question,
i dont think you solved the problem if yu didnt figure out where the water came from..it could happen again..it seems strange, carbon barrels are usually well sealed..it could be a small leak there ,which you have to identify and fix, so you dont keep poking holes in the gun..
2nd question:
NO..the 6.25mm shaft is generally for small and fast fish...for the biggies (over 15 kg)you need a minimum 2X16mm bands and 7mm shaft in my opinion...

1- i know the source of leak
i tried epoxy before and maybe i should try it again

2- my seac sub is brand new but i want to prepare it before my first time using it
we dont have RA or other brands and this why i bought x-fire

what im afraid of is the barrel which is 1mm thickness
unlike RA which is 2mm

Meshari, I think i read posts from you b4 and I guess u were located on the redsea side of Saudi Arabia... If thats the case, then you could have got a riffe gun (the standard or competior series) if ur main hunting will be for clear blue water and pelagics...

As for the leak, identify the source of it first (as marwan said) coz otherwise u wont solve the problem if it leaks again and ull have to drill a new hole

Meshari I never disassembled my T20's when I had them, but I guess, I suppose there are two plugs or gaskets at the ends of the barrell. Still guessing, I think there could have been a failure of one of the two plugs making water get in. If so, take off muzzle and handle and check if it's necessary to fix and seal the plugs with siliconic glue.
Hope this helps but, again, I'm just trying to guess an hypothetic possible solution.
For guns in general, let me drop my 2cents.
european spearguns are not flimsy, they are intended to be lightweight and manouverable, because for hunting in Europe you need a gun with these features of handyness. They're perfect for the european job. The 2mm thick alluminium barrel of South african railguns is not lightweight and not so manouverable IMHO: I think it's intended for more powerful set ups to hunt very big fish in very clear water.

Marwan, we've been good friends for almost three years now, so I think the time has come for you to know:
SPAGHETTI IS A GIRL!!!!!!!!! :chatup

...but please don't tell anybody, or the maniacs (full of maniacs on this board) will start flooding me with embarassing PM's...

i dont like riffe spearguns because they are heavy
and i enjoy the light euro guns

spaghetti

you are right as usual

but do you think x-fire can take 20mm band without flexion of barrel

Meshari,
Am I right about what? About being a girl? roflroflrofl
About the X Fire, I haven't heard from anybody having bending issues. The 2007 version of this gun is sold with two bands, so I don't think it's so easy to bend it...

Hello Meshari and others
I have the T20 too and have had the same problem with water in the carbon barrel, making it very heavy.
I had been hunting only shallow waters with mine but during a trip i Norway with deep dives the problem occurred. If there is a rubber plug in each end of the barrel made for sealing it I think the preassure can move the plugs towards each other and leave room for seawater to enter. When I removed the muzzle there was just a hole in the barrell and no plug in sight.
I solved the problem by filling the ends of the tube with foam from af spray can meant for filling cracks along windows, doors and so on.
Best regards
Joachim
