Save Stody's Brain
I don't know how many people know about this cause, so I thought I'd share it. Maybe it's already posted here on DB, but I have been busy lately and not spent a lot of time on here.

"Stody" works with Hawaii Skin Diver Mag. I read about the cause and I watch his updates on Facebook. If you can donate to help him, great. If you can stop by his site and offer support and encouragment, that's great too.

I'd like to organize a fundraiser from the WI Spearo's. Maybe if we have a big event we can all pool 5 or 10 bucks each and donate it from our "group" of midwest divers.

I don't know him personally, but he seems like an great guy and I know it's got to be tougher than I can imagine.

Thanks for reading.

Stody dedicates a lot of time to the sport and is a good guy. Great thread, and great ideas Chris.

This quote sold me:

"When his neurosurgeon, Dr. Donovan, asked if he had anything he wanted to say before he went under, he responded with, "I won't say 'good luck' because that would imply you don't know what you're doing. So I guess I'll just say 'steady hands' instead." The surgeon agreed that was pretty darn sagely advice."

Count me in for a few dead presidents.

I dont make any money, but I could definitely scrape up at LEAST $10 for this.

This was my favorite, from: Diving to ?Save Stody?s Brain? - Mauinews.com | News, Sports, Jobs, Visitor's Information - The Maui News

Before the surgery, he was scared. "They say, 'We're going to remove chunks of your brain, and you might lose your motor skills, your ability to talk, your memory.' The worst part was trying to tell my daughter what's going on." So he handled it in typical Stody fashion: with humor. "I told her, 'Daddy might be your new little brother after this!' "

I am setting a goal to raise $1000 by the end of April.

So we need a dive event sometime in April!! Bring some food too!? Brats, burgers... April 18th? Lake _________

What say ye!

BTW, I now know him personally. I met him and his family the beginning of March in Honolulu at a fundraiser for him.

I'm an idiot. April sucks for me because the owner of the dive shop will be at Coco View resort in Honduras. So the 18th is bad. It would have to be a Sunday for me to do it. Otherwise, if more people can make a Sat dive, please please please, do it without me. The cause is greater than one diver!!

I can do the 19th, 25th or 26th of April. Depending on who shows up we can do line dives or spearing. Might be early for spearing.

Ideas?

Although Ive never met him personally he helped me a lot with Hawaiian knowledge and connections when I went down there. Would be happy to do what it takes to help him a little in return. How are we planning on raising $1000...personal donations? Just wondering.

April is a busy month....I'm not sure how to raise $1000. I may be waiting until May and do some actual planning. I was thinking of making some pulled pork and shredded Italian Beef and doing a fund raiser at work. Biggest issue is having time to put in proper effort. Then personal donations on top of that.

Stody passed away today. His suffering has ended which is for the best. Pray for his family. He will be missed by many people. Sean gave a lot to the diving community of Hawaii with his desire to spread the word of safety. He has touched many other people through the HSD and other message boards.

I did not know you long, but we love you Sean.
