Hi all,

Hello guys. I need Your opinion about hyperfins. I`ve got one from Triton Equipment.

First of all I want to say, that Max is doing his best to solve the problem, he offered mi exchange, good advise, and always respond to my email quickly. So i can recommend his shop to everyone.

But now, let`s go back to the topic.
I swim 2x kicks and glide style, so same as most freedivers. If i do continuous kick excluding glide phase i don`t have any problem. I do compete, so i can`t exclude glide phase as it`s very important in dynamic apnea. The "problem" mentioned above is that my body during glide phase is not stable, it start to twisting, turning or falling on one side etc. whatever You call it(i`m not native english so it`s difficult to describe properly). On the beginning I thought the main factor is a wrong technique, but i`ve done so many tests that I`m not convinced about that. I looked closely to the fin, and i found 2 issues. First You can see on photo no.1 is not similar footpockets, of course they are handmade, so the holes or tapes don`t have to be in same position, but my right feet once in, is 1cm backwards, what in my opinion, changes water flow during glide phase.
Second issue You can see on photos No. 2-5, and that`s the one i`m concerned the most. On one side wing is straight, and on the other is falling, so automatically blade is not straight either(photo no. 2 and 4).

In my opinion those 2 factors together are reasons why my body start to twist, during glide phase ONLY, i think it has to do with hydrodynamics, there are different angles of the blade on each side while water is flowing around my body and fin. Of course I can correct it while gliding, but that`s an extra effort, which burn precious oxygen, I can`t relax my muscles, because i have to do countermoves to stop rotating on a side.

I explained it best i could, question for You guys is how are Your fins, are they straight(is the blade in line if You look on it from the front, wings-are they similar to each other)? are the footpockets position similar to each other?
Question is for You guys who are doing dynamic apnea in swimming pool with 2 kicks and glide style.

Wait Your responses.

Have you tried with another fin? That would eliminate your technique as a problem. Do you always fall to one side? Do you wear lead, especially on a weightbelt? Have you tried sinking in deep water with it to see if you spin?

Some things to consider before taking the fin back.

Hmmm, I use only neckweight, no weightbelt. Yes i always tend to fall on right side, which makes sence as the left wing is bend down, so while swimming it affect my right side. At the moment there is no possibility for me to dive because water is about 0-1C, I was thinking about freefall as a perfect test too. I can`t try another one because there is no one with hyperfin living near me. That`s why I`m asking about Your hyperfins, are they straight etc.

Hmmm, interesting i can see that the left footpocket loks like it is bent inwards a bit as well, not sure if it makes any difference though. i have the same fin as you and dont tend to twist or turn while in glide phase of dynamic or sink phase on canstant weight, i do move across the pool a bit though if i'm not carefulbut thats more just me not being perfect with the fin. others have tried my fin as well (people with much more experience) and they havent had an issue with it. my footpockets are not identical the right one is a bit smaller than the left but i just used a bit of wet and Dry sand paper to shape the inside of the pocket a bit more. otherise all good.

Maybe You should tie the fin to a string
and tow it underwater. That will simplify
the test and eliminate some interferences.

Haven't had this issue myself. You may be able to counter it with your feet though - and not much energy expended.
