Let's Say Tim is overseas doing an AIDA **** course

He passes the requirements for static and dynamic comfortably, but on the day for constant weight for example:
his right ear has some trouble equalising
or/develops an ear infection maybe from previous days
or/ there's enough pain in his ear to
prevent him diving deeper than 12m:head

Question is,

Could Tim use his results from an AIDA comp (world ranking etc) to prove the required depth is within his abililty, he's done a competition dive to 35m for example, meaning he has dived to 32m required
to met the standard for AIDA ****

As his trip overseas has cost alot of money,it's unfortunate timing to get an ear problem.:vangry

Can this be possible, (perhaps having made X amount of dives to that depth proven with official results to be given credit for that)

or is just tough luck that's life, save up and try again?

no he can't use the comp results but he can get a form signed off by the instructor (a referral form) to say he has done everything but that part - then he can finish it with another AIDA instructor somewhere else

Strange... It seems a perfect way to sign off such a requirement by using an official AIDA ranking result. But then again, if you think about it, it makes logic, because the requirement that is asked is something you should be able to do with 2 fingers in your nose and no max attempt. So if you haven't reached that depth many times during the course and only on the last day there is something wrong. I know I would never certify a freediver who has only done the requirement once.

I Definately agree there,
So thought having met an X amount would be more realistic proof.

But on second thoughts , could be a way of bypassing the system.

Just thinking worse case scenario, so that little question was bugging me for awhile.

thanks for clearing that up.

the main problem is that there are a lot more requirements in the course than the depth target - if he couldn't do the depth then chances are he also couldn't do the rescues, safety diving, and other skills - so there will be more to verify than just the CW dive - which comp results do not cater for

The diver may also achieve the depth once in a comp and be unable to repeat that depth again.. like a once-off victory for example. He has to be personally evaluated by an instructor.
