I am new to spearfishing and i live in devon , in the uk i have purchased the cressi apache 75 so i am curious how long shal i have my shooting line like how many times does it wrap around the gun also i have bought a tensor pig tail swivel what is the purpose of that haha i am sorry for being completly clueless with these thank you in advance

its x4 the length of the gun (or raps to the release)and the swivel is to attach to the gun or even better a shock absorber

Sounds about right ill attach afew photos see what you think ? Hmm okie so i dont know how to do that im only using my phone haha i think i have it right though thank you

best thing to do tho is try it out and see if its right for the power of your gun i had to make an extra long shock for my gun as the bands where quite powerful.

setup looks right. I don't know if you need two wraps for a 75 though. Usually one wrap will do the trick and more distance travelled does not mean it has more punching power. Stealth and trying to get closer to the fish will be more effective

Thank you for that info i see what your saying i guess having it there is nice if i can use it but yeh i know dostance doesnt mean more power but thank yoi for letting me know the set up looks ok it is appreciated if the line annoys me though i shall be cuttig to one wrap haha

i should add if you have more line when you shoot a fish and it runs there is more line to get tangled but try it out and the most important thing is what works best for you

Yeh im guna try it with the longer line because i can always cut it if i dont like it but i cant add line to it if i cut it first haha but thank you guys for the advice im going out now so i may give you an update this eve

Ive been out and vis wasnt to bad seen 7 bass in total and wrasse and still nothing under my belt haha but im guna shorten this shooting line so i can get it done quicker and less of a mess and i dont feel i have the power in the gun to actually use 4x wraps of the gun haha thank you for the comments and help

Usually, especially for shorter guns like this 75cm, you just want enough spear-line to reach from the butt of the spear (when loaded) to the muzzle of the speargun, then just once back down to the line-release-hook (usually just in front or to the side of the trigger-guard) and then back to the muzzle, where you can secure it*. i.e. roughly 3x barrel length + room for loops, etc.

There are several different options to secure it:
a. just secure the spearline directly into the muzzle (e.g. by crimping a loop) - monofilament has some stretch.
b. secure using a string with a knot that can be released (e.g. sheet-bend or double sheet-bend).
c. secure using cord, a clip or pig-tail & (optionally) a swivel.
d. secure using a bungee/shock-absorber,
i.usually these are rubber tubes with cord inside & have a clip/pig-tail & swivel.
ii. some -like the Omer rubber "bones" - you make yourself by wrapping cord (e.g braid) around a stretchy piece of rubber. Clip, swivel or knot as you prefer.
e. use a spear-line made entirely of bungee cord (tried it, don't recommend it, perishes too quickly).

A simple shock-absorber with swivel-clip is probably the way to go, to start with. For the UK, the cheaper, lighter-weight versions & middle-weight versions are fine - but the lightweight versions don't last as long as the heavyweight SA versions. Also, spearos often complain if their speargun seems overly "muzzle heavy"

Thanks for the reply i have the length you said on it because i found it useless with all that extra line and tied on a bungee thank you for the update
