I might be a noob but in my open water license class I learned that you do not need to equalize if you do not use scuba apparatusI myself free dove a few times and never had an equalization issue...... only when breathing from a tank

well probably not 10 to 15 meters..... im talking about basic recreational snorkeling/diving when u see something interestingjeez who taught you that? Unless you have holes in your ears its humanely impossible not to have to equalise. You might be doing it naturally by swallowing. To what depth did you freedive without equalising?
