Hey,

Anyone know of any Wisconsin Lakes with better than 15' visability this time of year (other than Lake Michigan)?

Anyone ever tried the chain of lakes area in Waupaca?

I have a Salmon trip lined up for this weekend, but the weather sounds bad, so I may be out & about Freediving/Spearing.

Re: I need good visibility!!!

Gene,

I was up in Vilas county two weeks ago diving in Presque Isle, Trout and Crystal lake. Vis was over 20' in all of them- but it's a long drive.

I talked with my father-in-law yesterday and he's up in Door County right now side scanning for wrecks on his new boat. He described the water there as being "gin clear". The local chart operators up there were saying it's as clear as it's ever been up there right now. I guess this is due to the drought they are, still, having. Down here we are over flowing at the river banks and any lake I've been on, paddling, is so green I can't see down past 2'.

Another friend of mine was out diving on some deeper wrecks in Lake Michigan last week and reported 70'+ vis at 180'- without a light. That's pretty clear, but a bit deeper than I can spearfish in.

The Washura county area is normally pretty nice this time of year, or at least as nice as things get in inland lakes in the southern half of the state this time of year.

Let me know what you find. I think I am going to try and hit something off of Milwaukee on Sunday.

I might have to make a weekend trip to Door County after my wifey & kid fly to South Africa on the 11th.

I'll miss them but I plan on staying busy working, freediving and Salmon fishing over the next month and a half.

Pinggene...I was at lake Geneva last week and there was about 10 ft. of vis, tons of rock bass and bullheads - some pretty big & inquisitive carp too! The huge smallies are always fun to feed or just swim around with. I feed 'em crayfish or strips of carp fillet...They love it!

On Lake Michigan the other day the vis was terrible - Too much rain.

I too am jonesin' for some good vis. I gotta get me a hood, gloves and some booties...I plan on going out 'til ice up!!!!

Good vis EVERYWHERE is just around the corner - after the lakes "turnover".

Jon-

Let us know how South Shore goes Sunday...It will be 6 or 7 days before I can get out again...Atleast here I can read about it!!!!
