Hiya Spearos

i know it is more then twice that i am asking but
i need to know what to take finally

Rob allen caranx carbon 110
VS
Omer excalibur 3000 110 carbon

first i must say i am fishing in the medetterian in israel
i can go spear no more then 15 m

so i have a choise to take between those 2 great guns
Omer have an open muzzle rail 6.5 shaft & reel
RA have rail normal muzzle 7 mm shaft with out reel
RA coast more 15% in price & a bit heavier

what to take that fits me best?

Hi,
I was thinking to go for RA, but one detail roll me out and now I'm looking to go for Pathos or Gabbiano.
RA has different spears/shafts, which are not standard in Europe, so EURO shafts does not fit in RA.
For me Pathos is "Euro RA".
I know that my replay brings to you no support in decision, but....

i dont know if you have an older RA handle but for the new (1 year older at least) handle it can take all the euro shatft and my uncle wanted to make some tests with a longer shaft and used my rob allen saft on a cressi apache (my very old gun :)). I never tried a Omer gun but i own a RA caranx 1200 and i would buy it again every time. Try to see if there's any chance to test the guns... the best one is the one that you like

I have never owned Rob Allen guns but I have owned 2 or 3 of the Omer excalibur series and have been very impressed with them :inlove

Hiya

My OPNION:

From what i gather, open muzzles on euro type guns were first made by the Hawaiian and US spearo's. They prefered the open view as this was what they were accustomed to on their wooden guns.

The open muzzle does offer a more open view, making aiming easier for some spearo's. It also allows for quicker swinging of the gun on fish.

Their are a couple of aftermarket manufacturers that produce them, with Hammerhead muzzles being very popular. How-ever, many euro gun manufacturers now also make their own range of guns fitted with open muzzles as standard.

Regards
miles
does the open muzzle is better for me ?
it allows for quicker swinging of the gun on fish?

Hi there Mundial,

In australia the RAs are popular, this is mainly because they are the primary gun pushed by the dealers, and many top spearfisherman are sponsered by them(there is very good product support, if you have a problem the distributors will help you out and try to shut you up). I have 2 a 1.1 and a 1.3. The main advantages of the RA is they have very strong spears that are very hard to bend and they have a integrated rail on the barrel. they are very ruff and rugged guns that can take a beating (but not the Carbon one) they are not as well engineered as the euro guns, there are many problems with their trigger mechs, (i had problems with both... one was seizing, and the other was misfiring!!) and the saftey is truley terrible, goes on and off by itself.(many Aussie spearo jam it in a permamantly off position). Also the RAs generally dont come with balanced rubbers, so you need to figure that out yourself, the bulk rubber mussle is so you can change and customise your rubbers.

So if you get the RA and you have issues, will you have good product support?

The excaliber is designed for euro hunting conditions, the RA is not.
But if your are hunting big fish (ie 10kgs +) then ge the RA as the spears will handle that size fish better.

My friend i am an old OMER guns user and i also own an RA SPARID model 90cm. The guns you mention are both very good. I believe that 15% more is is a lot of money for RA. The quality of OMER products is amazing! I believe you should go for the excalibur because it is lighter, cheaper and its quality is incomparable. You can find better aluminum barreled euroguns with 120 Euros with a reel! Why bother with the RA? If you are not an experienced spearo, using a lighter gun will be better for you at this point because it will be easier to use!!!
A few years ago i bought a RABITECH gun which is also excellent but very heavy. With it i tried to to hunt smaller med fish which are very fast and of course I failed to do so!!! I left the rabitech gun aside as "not good" until i started going for groupers mainly. Now rabitech is my best "big fish" gun because being heavy, it allows me to shoot way longer shots more accuratelly!!

So every gun has a specific use!!! I would go for the OMER one.

OMER excalibur 3000 110 with 6.5mm devoto spear, flooper on the bottom, totemsub 19mm bands, match 50 reel, i can't think of better combination for all around use.

I will buy one for my self too:)

dear friend

i will consider it on buying my new gun
