Hi guys,

I just saw how a Croation diver supposedly set a new record under ice. An amazing accomplishment in itself, but how can this be called a record if he blacked out and stopped breathing?

I'm pretty sure that for this to be a record, the diver would have had to return to the surface safely, breathing, and able to take care of himself.

Am I missing some info?

Thanks

There are AIDA records, there are CMAS records, there are Guinness records, and there are unofficial records. If you wish you can even make a record of the longest blackout ever. It just won't be an AIDA (or CMAS) record.

BTW, I do not think that Goran Colak (who is Croatian and has indeed set several records under ice in the past) blacked out after the attempt. That would really surprise me, because he is an excellent freediver and follows AIDA (and/or CMAS) rules. I guess you are mixing with a Dutch guy who made a stupid stunt, and swam in speedos under ice, with absolutely no freediving training or experience and indeed blacked out at the end of the stunt (which was surveyed by Guinness)
