Beginnig of the year I was freediving in Thailand. Nice and warm! Now I'm going to Iceland and would love to freedive there. Clear and so cool (freezing) waters. Does anybody have any experiences or contacts? I would appreciate it a lot, if I would get any tips, even a very tiny one

I'm going 17.-26.10.2008 Hrrrr! Well, I AM from Finland, but still...

Susanna

I would love to see some pictures afterwards rofl
Which you a great time with some cool dives..

There are actually spots with warm water from geothermal sources. I believe this is taken at one of them:

EDIT: in fact I think I was wrong - I think the spot on the video does not have warm water, though I think there are other that have. FreedivingSpots.net shows 1-2 degrees C. There are more details about the spot here:

Also make sure to search for the word Iceland here on DB - there are some threads that may interest you

I've just got back from diving in Silfra - its about 3C - certainly not warm!! but amazingly beautiful and well worth the shivers.

The dive centre we were with told us there was one freediver in Iceland, a girl, but didn't know the name. Good luck finding her!

We dived with www.diveiceland.com - they were excellent

As Trux rightly points out the water there is between 1 and 2 degrees c.
I just got my self a seven mm wetsuit for it. I don't have any contact in the freedive world out there but my wife is islandic and has family there so we are going to put out some feelers. let me know how things go with your trip.
see you
