Hi,
I'd like to get some new kit, and was considering the cressi Geronimo elite.

It has a reel and I have never used a gun with reel before. I mainly go out In south Devon but recently moved to Portsmouth so any where along the south coast is within a couple of hours...

Please may anyone offer advice on:

Most suitable length (I am in my second season)
Whether the reel will be a help or hindrance
Whether the elite is a good gun
What sort of price, I noticed decathlon sell them for £150 for the 85cm, which seemed a few quid cheaper than elsewhere

Any other comments much appreciated
Cheers
Sam

Most modern band guns in the 75-90 range will be good, you don't need specialist guns to catch your tea, just good stalking skills!
Reels are not very popular with UK spearfishing guys, some folk do use them but if you ask me, I would not bother!

I'd recommend a Rob Allen 80cm aluminium - 16mm rubbers and a 7mm spear - I've just spent a few days using a Rob Allen 70cm with the same spec, what an amazing gun! Have a look at the North Wales thread in the UK and Ireland section to see the results.

I've only used 90cm guns to date, the 70cm was a revelation. I think the 80cm would be the perfect all round UK gun at a great price. You could go for the carbon version, but apart from looking cool, there's no real difference.

A reel is a complete waste of time - just clip your gun to your float line - it's such a better way to fish!

Thanks for the suggestions, and the north Wales trip looked fantastic. I'll give crystal viz a call, as they seem to be the prime stockists.
Were you using double or single banded?
Cheers
Sam

Hi Sam, just a single 16mm band.

The RA is a super simple, rugged gun - I've been very impressed with mine indeed and would recommend it to anyone. RA's are by the far the best guns I've ever used.
