Hello everyone,
I have been free diving for around a year. I have a spring suit that i found abandoned at the beach so I adopted it. I have gotten into free diving enough that I think it is time for an upgrade. I have searched around on the internet and I find that there are so many types and I just don't know what would is best for casual free diving. I am also looking for a suit that won't empty my lives savings. * I live in SoCal, so the water temp is around 50-60 ish and I mostly go in just a regular swim suit.

Based on this hopefully I can get some good suggestions on what to look for.
Thanks a lot for your time guy/gals.

Hi Tommy,

Welcome to DeeperBlue.

If 50-60 F is 10-15 C then you'll probably need a 5mm suit if your going down the two piece road. Or even 7mm if you only want a one piece. By spring suit do you mean shorty? as in short arms and legs? If so you must be a bit cold in that kind of temp.

My recommendation if you are getting a bit serious about your diving is get a 2 piece open cell suit. If your not cold in that kind of temp in a shorty you could even get away with a 3mm, but I'd recommend 5mm open cell two piece and maybe socks, again 3 or 5mm, 3 should be fine.

If you want something cheap have a look at this, I just got one and love it. In my 10 C pool I got out dry and very warm. Cressi Apnea

Or if you want to spend some money have a look here. They make custom suits that are very good and not much more expensive. Elios
If you need any help ordering one the guys here are experts and I'm sure will be glad to help.

Cheers,
Sam
