Ideas on Glide Monofin Footpocket Repair.

I like the Glide for diving! :inlove I've been using these almost daily since I got them.
I bought it new only 4 months ago and already I see signs on the horizon of the straps on the footpocket coming to an end.

Does anyone have suggestions on the 2 main issues pictured?

1. The straps (only on one side), when stretched or bent show cracking---don't want it to crack on me on a deep dive. :naughty

2. where the straps are welded on are coming undone (where the rubber strap meets the rubber foot pocket---don't want anything to burst open on a deep dive and for the strap to come off. :naughty

I did try using rubber cement on the strap joint but as you can see I ended up peeling it off because it didn't work.

I was thinking to take a bike innertube and make a new strap alongside the current straps as a saftey--but not sure how I would make a strong bond with current materials here in the seaside of the third world.

Any insights are most welcomed

Super Glue- seriously, Super Glue.

Superglue is what is normally used on those fins. There are also some marine adhesives that work - though I don't have a name for you. All the fin makers recommend superglue. I prefer the Gel type.

That said - the strap peeling back a bit in that area is pretty common and, if its not getting worse and is not too far along, can be considered part of the normal break-in. My fin has a similar separation along the bottom of the strap. It has been that way for hundreds of hours of use without getting worse.

I cannot see any cracks in your picture - but I suggest putting the fin on with lube whenever possible to reduce wear on the straps.

I would not use super glue for this fix...

I would recommend Loctite 406, that's how I fixed completly new strap when I broke the old one and it's ok till now. (2 years)

Thats the Gel type superglue (Cyanoacrylate)- I agree; its much easier to work with.

I think superglue is fine where rubber meets fin but for rubber to rubber i think they use something called dunlop 2000 or something ( has to be more flexible). Email rocket fins boys or bogdan they will fix you up.

After you fix it, spray your mono (rubber parts and blade - not inside the footpockets) with silicone oil and then dab off with a towel. I do that and it seriously protects my monos from sun and salt.

I've just 'refurbished' a monofin that I bought from Only One. The rubber was degrading so I googled around and found some advice from a finswimmer:

1. Put a layer of neoprene glue on the footstrap. Allow to dry.
2. Take a bicycle inner tube and cut pieces that are as long as the foot straps on the mono, then cut them down the center so that they can fold over the footstraps.
3. Lightly sand the 'inside' of the inner tube.
4. Put a layer of neoprene glue on the 'inside' of the inner tube. Allow to dry.
5. Put another layer of neoprene glue on the footstrap and the tube pieces, then fold the tube pieces over the top of the footstraps, compress and allow to dry.

I went one step further and put a neoprene glue layer over the whole footpocket. Working well so far.
