As a freediver interested in trying a bit of spearing who's based in manchester, UK, I'm a few hours away from the coast. I was wondering if inland spear fishing is an option in the UK. If so, where and what would be a likely catch?

Cheers

Absolutely not an option.
Spearing any freshwater fish is illegal in the UK.
Even freshwater fish that run to sea like salmon and sea trout are off-limits in the sea.
It's a nice idea but a complete no-no.

Speak to John M he is a top spearo. No inland spearfishing though.

Have you found Target spearing in the UK? Noted at a couple fund raiser or spear gun sales web sites. Doesn't seem to be organized yet. Could be an APNEA version of the target archery industry, a calm version of underwater rugby or U/W hockey.

Top idea!

Manalive! Get yer speedos on mate, I'll get the spearos to use you for out of season target practice rofl

But actually Mich1fish you've just given me a great idea

Oh no, we just fell into the google searches that Spag makes on a daily basis with this conversation haha

Spag, are they shooting actual not attached to the gun projectiles at the target? I can't make it out I watched it on my phone. Imagine the risk assessment you'd have to put into the pool manager in the UK for that haha

Risk: getting shot up the Ricker with a projectile whilst wearing speedos
Severity: sore arse
Action to avoid problem: don't ever get in the pool with Dario (or any other Italian spearo ;) ) and a loaded gun or you'll have a piccy of you in the bottom of his boat by the end of the day

No, I think not. I've published the full text of what I believe is the full-text of the laws concerned on the forum a couple of times [try searching for it if interested]. There is less clarity around game-fish (trout & salmon) in the sea...although most seem to believe that is also banned by those same laws.
