Congratulations, Penguinator! What's a clearance diver?

Enjoy the next few months of civilian life. Keep safe and may the world underwater be a peaceful one!

Cheers!

just found this on the Australian Navy website. "As a Clearance Diver in the Navy your main job is to locate, identify, evaluate and dispose of underwater military weaponry at depths of up to 90 metres. These can include mines, missiles, artillery shells, and improvised bombs."

Defence Jobs

Good luck in the Navy Penguinator.
let me know how they pay lol i am also looking into it

Well after training your on about 55k, and it goes up from there based on extra qualifications, time in service, and rank. Plus you get a few hundred a fortnight to go towards rent :D

Well done mate, show em how it's done!

Does this mean Watts is after a new pool buddy now?

We have been ostracized from the University pool for safety reasons, and on top of that I have not been able to make training for the last few weeks. Hopefully I can get back into it over summer :S

Sure, make fun of the Canadian Navy... But just look at how environmentally friendly we are - electric motor and all! ;)
(BTW - That's the US Coast Guard...:t)

Good Luck!

All of the EOD guys in the U.S. Navy are U.S. Navy SEALS - Not too many of 'em getting much diving in these days. Most of them are on various stages of tours of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan..Blowing up IED's "after the U.S. or IA (Iraqi Army) or IP ( Iraqi Police) find them - or alot of times an Iraqi informant person tell us about an IED - If they ask for money they are very closely investigated - As it has been shown they will plant fake IED's or weak IED's - Inform on them and then ask for money! Presumably to get the components to make the real thing or to finance thier group. And unfortunately in some cases -just to feed thier family or to buy gasoline for a generator!

I'm glad I'm home safe. I got to play in the Kuwaiti and Iraqi desert in "91". It was a different war then. Good Luck man...I'm sure you'll learn ALL there is to know about Improvised Explosive Devices - And while your doing that you'll get into the best shape you'll ever be in in your life! You may even get to go to Iraq!

If you do ever get over that way...Say hi to a Navy Corpsmen...They get stuck with the marines...The Seals...EOD...You name it. And they endure most of thier combat training too!

U.S.N. "86"-"91" and USNR "91-93"

Hey penguinator
congrats on your new career. I am also looking at becoming a navy clearance diver, when i am old enough i was just wondering if you could pm me and tell me about your progress in training and how you are liking it. Im just confused about what career path to go down for the moment. Although being a clearance diver does sound cool
