As a youngster learning to play trombone we were warned not to let our cheeks expand when we played or we would end up like Dzzy Gillespie, (a famous jazz trumpet player - see attached photo). Clearly he has way more mouthfill volume than typical. This might help with FRC equalization at depth. Seems excercise to expand mouthfill volume would be to blow hard into expaned cheeks regularly. Cheers Wes

Soon all freedivers will have cheeks like hamsters, and use them as an additional source of air! Think of all that O2...

On second thought, this may come in handy:
About a month ago I found a nice old fishing boat anchor in about 4-5 m of water, lodged in the rocks. After struggling with it for a good few minutes, I managed to pry it free, just to discover there is no way in the world I could swim the bugger ashore. Now just imagine I could just inflate that pair of cheeks and float us home free!

I always thought girls did not need that. At least I knew a few of them who were able to inflate their upper bodies to volumes no man could ever match. If needed I could even prove it with a rich photo evidence.
