Hey Guys,
Can anyone tell me what they know about underwater scooters? I am wanting to buy a couple but want strong, long battery life, and stuff you can really beat up.

I was looking at these

Gavins are usually used for underwater cave exploration projects and considered by alot of scubadivers to be the "top of the line" scooters.

Interesting. You guys recommend any others? I am wanting about 6 of them. That would run around 20k with the Gavins. Any cheaper but GOOD alternatives that you guys have tested?

Take a look here:

I've test 'flown' the Silent Submersion and the X-Scooter. SS is slightly faster than Gavins, like being dragged along by a clysdale horse, it's powerful enough to rip your mask off if you're not careful. The X-Scooter is only slightly slower than SS, but half the weight of a Gavin and very maneuverable, on par with Apollo AV-1 (I own one).

If you're getting it for freediving I'd highly recommend X-scooter.

good luck and let us know how it goes,

Peter S.

It's for scuba. I am trying to introduce it at my family's dive center. But I wanted good stuff. No power drain type thing before a regular 80 runs out. So a good 45min burn time would work. I want to get 6 to start with.

I have an Apollo and like it for freediving, quick to change out the batteries between dives and not as heavy as a Gavin- plus, it's a LOT cheaper!

My father-in-law had a Farallon for about 20 years. It was a big one, weighed in at over 100 pounds, and you could ride on it like a horse. It finally died and he moved on to a Gavin. He has his video camera and light system mounted onto it for wreck diving and seems happy with it, but still uses the crane on the back of the boat to haul it in and out because of the weight.

The Gavin is nice, but not as easy to switch out the battery as a Dacor/Apollo. It also has a much better depth rating on it. I've seen video footage of the X-scooter and if it, really, does the same thing as a Gavin at half the weight i would jump on it.
