Hi Mates!
I'm new on this forum so let me present myself first.
My name is Alex, I'm 37 yo, French: nobody's perfect!;)
I LOVE being in the water! I was Yacht Master and sail Instructor 12 years long and sailed in Europe, Africa and Caribe.
Sadly, I had a bad Tuberculosis, and finally was surged. My upper right lobe of my lung is missing and my lung capacity is 85%. Doctors say I may recover until 92% if training.
So I left everything in France and went for a long trip in Australia to discover and fit myself. Now my visa is ending and i'm preparing my next 6 months in asia, place of the world I don't know at all.
I'm on a very cheap budget and I have great expectations... So I may need your help!
I want to find a place where life is cheap (600€ per month maximum without flights), and where i can learn yoga, go easily snorkeling and when i feel ready try a first level free-diving course.
Searching on internet i found an Island in Thailand: Koh Tao. My problem is after 12 years in tourism, and a lot of bad problems in europe those last years (health is not the only one...) I became quite Tourist-phobic... ;)
I mean I don't wanna be in a place where it is party every night, full of foreigners, etc... I'm more in search of authenticity and zen so i can focus on myself, my performances and state of mind.
Maybe in Koh Tao I may find a good place if avoiding Sairee Beach... I really don't know! So if some of you know the area, your help would be nice!
I also search on Philippines Islands and Malaysia but it is more difficult to find informations. I'm also in contact with a Yoga-Free-diving school in Bali but I 'm scared of over tourism over there...
My problem is on all my different search on Google I find informations about diving school but not a lot of comments on long stay trip over there.
Thank you for all your comments and tips!
Alex

Edit: please excuse my bad english writing... it's even worth when I speak! ;)
