Hello everyone
I am trying to plan a spear trip for the last week Feb first week March and am seeking advice/info. I was wondering how the hunting is during this time period in South Florida and or Keys. Plenty of fish? do they go deeper this time of year I prefer to stay 45 or shallower but would consider a little deeper on occasion. Hows clarity and water temp this time of year? What are primary species to hunt? any help would be greatly appreciated.

its always good here,(in the keys) march tends to be a little windy at times and the water will be around 72deg. there is a grouper ban for all of florida from jan 1 to may 1, 2010. there is plenty of fish around in the spring/ late winter here. if you come to the keys , pm me and maybe you can ride out with me in my boat. we go every weekend weather permitting.

Thanks for the reply that was very neighborly of you. Where abouts are you located at/ where do you take your boat out from?

Some of the best spearin's in march- fish are in transition, waters still cool so plenty of fish in...wind starts blowin more towards April-May...barometer's spinning this time of the month so fish are usually out not holed up, good luck!

i am in key west. my boat is in the water ready to go at all times. i got a 25 ft sea vee.we have alot of choices here for places to go and we kill ALOT of fish these days.whenever your ready let me know.every weekend its "game on!" i always got room on my boat for a deeper blue diver.i can get big discounts on hotels here too,(through my job) if you are interested let me know. you live in iowa huh? that sucks. cold right about now huh?

Hello again
Wow hotel discounts also! I am thinking of coming down last week in Feb. My father and his girlfriend may be interested in coming down to vaca with me. I also have another deeper blue diver from Chicago that may be interested in coming. What kind of rates are you talking about and with 3 to four of us would we better off getting a rental house??

if you can afford one, a house is always nice. if i still have my job in march, i could get rooms for about 1/2 price. westin is 175$ sheraton is 120$ travelodge is 80$ banana bay( about 200 yards from my dock and other db member's house and dock) is only 60$ a night for my price. my company owns all these. to be honest, unless you NEED discounts it may be better for you to make your own reservations, at one of my hotels,(banana bay is super convenient) and right before you come, i can ask for discounts. if i still have the same job and all is the same as right now, it will be no problem, and i will be happy to do it , since it is free to me and all i have to do is ask my supervisor to do the discounts and he is cool most of the time. but if it doesnt work out, i will still take you out on my boat, and i'm sure if you PM ny-er from db ( he lives on the same road as my boat is docked on. me and him go spearing all the time. we went today as a matter of fact. he could probably take you out on the weekdays, since i will have to work. bottom line is: come down and if the wind doesnt blow more than 15mph we will kill alot of cool stuff.
