So, I have already searched through all the other available threads on Hawaiian slings and I still have some questions. I am intersested in buying one because I don't know that I could make one "right" with that in mind what would be a good accurate starter sling?also I would appreciate some advice such as conditions for a sling, range, size of fish taken ETC. I also noticed a lot of other people with these questions were advised to buy a polespear. I am already experienced with a polespear and a speargun. At this point I am interested in trying something new with the sling. Also most of my spearfishing is done on lakes and rivers and I freedive. With a polespear I hav been able to take fish from rough panfish to decent gar (all of which are eaten) can you do this with a sling. Thanks.

I bought a standard sling and had them reverse the rubber on it (great tip from Connor) so that it was easier to hold while loaded. I, then, bought a couple of shafts from Ray Odor and had him drill a shooting line hole about 18" back from the barb. This allowed me to attach some 300 lb mono to it and attach the other end to the handle of my sling. Since I'm spearing freshwater only this works out great when in a super weedy/muddy area. I have never lost a shaft with this set up.

Sweet. Thanks! How much mono do you attach? Do you just let it free float or do you spool it off the front if the sling?

Around 6' or 8'. I have the other end attached to the handle.
