The I.S.A.F., International Shark Attack File website has some great info on shark attacks on divers.

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/isaf/diverstats.htm

Here is another link to the same site, where species of sharks are in the world and lots of info about the shark, including habitat, biology, importance to humans, danger to humans and much, much more.

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/statistics/species2.htm

Check it out! Also has info on how to avoid attacks and what to do when being attacked.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi All,

More great info at:

www.elasmo-research.org
/education/white_shark/attacks.htm

I have no idea why this link doesn't work - when I try to edit it the composer displays the correct address but when it posts it abbreviates it....so I have broken it into two pieces....

I have used this site before, and it has some very interreting info.
But a lot of the stats tell me more about divers than sharks, for instance:
1. most divers wear black wet suits
2. people like to dive in clear warm water (25 oC)
3. most divers wear masks and fins
4. and a surprising amount of people dive in the nude! (17%!!) rofl

I would also have liked to know how many divers had speared fish with them.

Yes, you'd think there'd be more of them trying to differ from the wet-suiters that are being attacked. I know I'M sold on the idea. It wasn't a hard sell, but I'm sold, and I'm doin' it from now on.

On a side note, I think I might have a natural alternative to a diving lanyard.

A bit of a safety hazard, though, seeing that it's not detachable.:naughty

Just don't get it snaged somewhere on the reef.:naughty

I had a similar unfortunate run in with a woman of ill repute, named Millie Porina.
